Reading Comprehension Tricks

Reading Comprehension  Tricks
Reading Comprehension Tricks as it is commonly referred to RC Passage is one of the most important topics of English Language section in any competition exam. It can be asked in IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, IBPS RRB, LIC AAO, National Insurance exams and all other government examination. This topic always has a high scoring aspect in the sense that all questions are within the passage itself. Students having difficulty in English can score in this topic as it does not require much grammar.

The questions asked are mostly direct and doesn’t require any rule of thumb for Reading Comprehension Tricks. In doing RC the only problem is that it consumes a lot of time, and thereby leaves a little time for other questions in the section. In a way, RC Passage can make or break your sectional cutoffs. This can  be the difference between your selection and failure. We all know that solving RC Passage has become an inevitable part of the IBPS exam.

In some of the examinations, an aspirant can easily solve simple and direct passages. But, that is not the case when it comes to IBPS exam. The passages are not that simple and mostly are from the editorial pages of famous newspapers or are based on economic and business situations of countries making it a difficult task to complete during the pressure. Students are unable to understand the theme and idea of the passage. The inability to understand vocabulary (meaning of words) makes it even tougher. That is why you must read our vocabulary updates continuously on our website.
The section ultimately becomes uninteresting and to avoid such situation. Today we will share with you some Reading Comprehension Tricks to solve the RC Passage quickly.
The solution will lie not in shortcuts, but in hard work and dedicated preparation and above all practice. By practice I mean to say reading as well listening practice of English. So, here are someReading Comprehension Tricks to follow to score more marks in Reading Comprehension in the English language during the examination.

Understand theme of the passageThe major issue during the examination is that students are unable to understand the theme of the passage. If same is the case with you, then understand that you don’t need to know each and every word of the comprehension. Read the text for the first time, read to understand the main ideas and don’t look up new words. You’ll be surprised that you can usually understand the general idea of the story. In any RC, the author generally uses the first paragraph to introduce his topic and the final paragraph to conclude the discussion. So, whenever you have trouble in finding the purpose of the passage, go back and read these two paragraphs repeatedly to get an idea of the passage.

Learn VocabularyIt means knowledge or meaning of words. It ultimately leads to a bit difficulty in the understanding the meaning of that sentence. Good vocabulary makes you understand the reading Comprehension much easier, therefore, you need to improve your vocabulary. The most crucial part of a Reading Comprehension Passage is Vocabulary. If you do not have a good vocabulary, you have to stop at each and every new word while reading any passage to understand the meaning. RC Passages are taken from different fields of knowledge, like Science, Arts, Literature, Politics, Economics or even a popular fiction. It looks tough but is sweet and simple. What you need to do is Start reading anything that you get in English, be it newspapers, magazines, textbooks, or even a love story, editorial columns of newspapers. Develop a habit of listening to English, for this, you can watch English movies or TV series with subtitles. It can be a great way to learn with fun. You will come across a lot of new words have a notebook with you and note it down. Check out its meaning in the dictionary and try to memories it with fun. By this, you will be able to understand the meaning of new words.

Find your strengthsThe capabilities of everyone here is different you need to find your strengths and weakness. The conservative approach that the whole student community follows for solving an RC Passage is to first read the passage, then read the questions and then finally solving them. This may be a good approach, but it does not work for all. Probably some aspirants are unaware about which keywords to remember while going through the RC Passage. That’s why they have to read the RC Passage again, after reading the questions. This leads to the problem of Time Management. If that is the case with you too, you can choose what we call as the “Reverse” approach (Questions before reading Passage). Read the questions first, so that you have an idea what to look for, in the passage. It also lets you know about the theme of the passage. So identify your strength and follow either of the two approaches that suit you.

First Solve Easy Questions All the questions asked in the RC section will not be of the same difficulty level. Try to solve the easy questions first. If you are not able to find the answer to a particular question, don’t waste your time on it. You can always come on it later. Leaving the difficult questions and solving the easier ones may prove to be a good strategy to save time. But you must do it carefully. Because most of the time when you come back to the question, there will be a possibility that you have forgotten the passage itself.

Improve reading Speed It is not unusual and happens with all when we find the passage dull and boring when it happens we lose our focus. It might happen with you as well, focus on the content. Don’t let your mind distract while reading the passage. Try to improve your reading speed, point a finger on the screen or paper to have more focus. A handy suggestion will be not to move your lips while reading as it slows down your speed to understand the topic but, most will disagree with this topic. Again you have to ask yourself what you are comfortable with during practice.

Practice makes you perfectRC Passages are taken from different fields of knowledge, like Science, Arts, Literature, and Politics, Economics or even magazines or current topics. Solve mock test papers and speed tests on our website to understand about the form of questions asked in the examinations. Some questions may even check your reasoning skills and your decision regarding controversial topics. The important thing to keep in mind is to answer these questions according to the information in the passage. Do not make any conclusion which is not given in the passage as doing so you can lose your marks.Readers, here are some Tips to develop Reading Speed at your home which can prove beneficial for you during examinations. alone the Reading Comprehension Tricks are not going to fetch you marks but you also have to learn vocabulary and increase reading speed. Some tips to follow and avoid from Reading Comprehension Tricks during the exams are as follows.
